The Columns Gallery
You Ji In’s (b. 1982, Korea) interdisciplinary practice investigates different modes of production as well as expanding craft-related techniques with non-traditional materials such as gunny sacks, napkins, candies and food-wrapping paper.
For Art Jakarta Spot, You Ji In presents “North, K2”, a series of mirrors and stained glass that captures North Korean propaganda slogans along with a variety of icons coming from the North Korean print media.
The keywords the artist captured in the entire work are “propaganda” and “perspectives” that have been contributed to the time and modified into different forms. Printed on a distorted mirror that look like stained glass, she emphasizes propagandas as distorted illusions. Thus, the work becomes a multi-layered distorted scenes produced by materials and texts. This installation is presented by The Columns Gallery.
