New Dates

Jakarta, 08 May 2020

Dear Exhibitors, Partners, and Friends,

Since 2009, Art Jakarta has served as the flagship event in the annual Indonesian as well as greater Asia-Pacific art calendar, playing a pivotal role in the region and beyond.

We are very proud to share with you that 70 exhibitors have confirmed their participation in this year’s edition, and would like to thank the following galleries for their continuous support of the Fair:

2020 has been a very exceptional year in many ways. In particular, the Covid-19 pandemic has been changing the world in scale, speed, and magnitude that humanity has not seen before. Countries all over the world are battling the outbreak with lock-downs as well as other restrictions with grave implications for international trade and the global economy.

As far as Indonesia is concerned, there is a significant uncertainty with regard to the economic outlook for 2020. As the pandemic continues to spread, media headlines report how the “Indonesian government prepares for the worst, including zero percent growth”1 and how “preventive measures to contain the virus will trigger a demand shock”. Private consumption is also expected to drop massively in 2020.2 The economic situation in Indonesia is anticipated to only improve “in the fourth quarter of 2020”,3 and the economy “gradually return to its growth trajectory next year.”4

Our exhibitors deserve the best possible economic environment to present the works of their artists. Our stakeholders also expect a physical environment which is safe and does not constitute a health risk in any possible way. It is with these considerations that we have evaluated the timing of our Fair. Art Jakarta has therefore decided to cancel this year’s edition and hold the Fair next year, from 27-29 August 2021, at the Jakarta Convention Center. While this decision was not easy to take, we believe it is in the best interest of all concerned.

We would like to thank you profoundly for your support of Art Jakarta. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2021 edition, in what hopefully will be a stronger, more energetic, and rejuvenated art market.

Thank you for your understanding and your patronage. We wish you all the best of health.
