Art Jakarta 2019 is being led by Tom Tandio, the Fair’s new Director, who will be supported by a team of professionals with thorough knowledge and experience in the contemporary art market of the region.
Tom Tandio is a collector who plays a substantial role in the development of Indonesian contemporary art, serving as a board member of the Jogjakarta Biennial, and as the founder of IndoArtNow, an online archival platform for Indonesian contemporary art. His own collection focuses on contemporary artists from Southeast Asia. In 2016 part of his collection was exhibited at the Song Eun Art Space in Seoul.
Regarding his appointment as Art Jakarta’s Fair Director, Tom stated that he “was proud of the trust Art Jakarta has given” to him. He believes that “Indonesia, especially Jakarta, is one of the important centers for the development of art in Southeast Asia, even Asia. I am sure Art Jakarta can be a good platform for participating galleries, artists, collectors, curators and the general public to jointly promote and further develop an appreciation for art. Art Jakarta can contribute in enriching the dynamics of the development of contemporary art in Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region”.
